We can’t name names due to an NDA, but what we can share is the process, mindset, and strategy that worked. These lessons come from our direct experience helping a Black-led startup get organized, build community, and launch with impact.


Whether you’re running your business solo or building a small team, these are insights you can apply today.


1. Know your ICP and know them well


Your Ideal Customer Profile isn’t just a guess. You need real clarity, who they are, what they value, what they struggle with, and how they speak. For our client, getting hyper-specific helped them avoid wasting time on the wrong audience. It also helped us shape copy, visuals, and offers that actually resonated.

2. Create community early


Before you sell, build trust. Black founders often come from communities rich with influence and relationship capital, and use that. We helped our client launch a private group that created space for conversation, learning, and listening. When it came time to ask for support, they already had a warm audience ready to say yes.

3. Don’t neglect branding—but don’t overdo it


Too many startups get stuck trying to perfect their logo or choosing brand colors. Yes, visuals matter, but clarity matters more. We focused on simple, strategic branding that clarified the founder’s voice and mission, then polished it over time as traction grew.

4. Lean doesn’t mean lifeless


Budget constraints are real, especially for Black founders who aren’t backed by capital. But constraints can breed creativity. We built campaigns using tools like Canva, Zapier, and voice notes turned into content. Done is better than perfect, especially in the early stages.

5. Your first audience won’t be your final one


Our client’s first few customers weren’t the ones who ultimately scaled the business. And that’s normal. Founders evolve. Offers evolve. Your audience will, too. Don’t be afraid to pivot as you learn what works.


🔁 Validate. Iterate. Don’t cling to what no longer fits.


6. Every touchpoint builds trust


That email. That DM. That onboarding form. It all matters. When you’re building something from scratch, especially as a Black founder, your brand has to carry weight. People are watching to see if you’re about your business. So we made sure every piece of collateral told a consistent, credible story.

7. Use video to connect


People trust faces, not logos. We coached our founder to step in front of the camera—raw, unscripted, and real. Those clips outperformed every branded post. Why? Because people want to know who they’re supporting.


📹 Your face is your brand. Let people see you.


8. Track what matters

Likes are not leads. We set up basic analytics dashboards using free tools to help the founder track what mattered: engagement, email list growth, conversions, and referrals. That data shaped every decision we made.


📈 Impressions are cool. Impact is better.


9. Launch is just the beginning


The first drop isn’t the finish line. It’s the starting point. We helped our client map out a 90-day post-launch roadmap with content themes, offers, and milestones. When the hype faded, the strategy kept the business moving.
